One of a Kind Baby Gifts That Will Last a Life Time
by: Jen Wasilewski
Are you tired of buying the same old baby gifts? Looking for a special present for a grandchild or godchild? Shopping in the baby section in your local department store can often lead to boring, drab, and run of the mill baby gifts that will eventually be lost, tossed aside, or out grown. If your want to buy that special little one in your life something they can keep and cherish well into their adult years, here are some great gift ideas.
- Baby bling: Silver spoons, diamond studded pacifiers, and crystal rattles are great gift ideas if you’re looking for something trendy that can be cherished and will last over time. While these gifts aren’t necessarily going to be used by the baby, it is something that can be put on display, cherished and maybe even passed down for generations.
- Classic Editions of Children’s Books: While it may seem pointless to buy an expensive book of fairytales when the baby can barely open his or her eyes; this gift can be put on display until baby is old enough to read. While the cheaper baby books are used up and then thrown out, a nice leather bound edition of Grimm’s Fairytales can last for years to come.
- Traditional Wooden Toys: Think back to the toys you had growing up. In this day and age, there is no limit of colorful and fun toys that light up, sing, or move. However, there is something to be said about the classic baby toys such as wooden block, puzzles, and even the wooden rocking horse. Wooden toys add a feeling of nostalgia and will often hold up well after the plastic toys have made their way into the trash.
- Hand Crafted: Homemade baby quilts, sweaters and other articles of baby clothing can be a great gift. If you’re crafty, nothing says love like something you put your heart and hard work into. Often times these gifts will become baby’s favorite and when baby becomes too big for them they are not retired to second hand shops or passed down to sibling. Instead, these clothes can be kept as an heirlooms and act as a lasting testament of your love.
- Baby Firsts: The earliest years of a child’s life are full of firsts. The first word, first holiday, first steps and so on. Gifts that commemorate these milestones can be great ideas when searching for something that can be saved and cherished. These gifts can include picture frames or photo albums; ornament or other decorative items that commemorate first holidays; or religious items such as christening gowns that symbolize entrance into the parent’s chosen religion.
- Keepsake Boxes: If you’re not sure what to purchase then go ahead and buy something that can keep all the important baby memorabilia. Keep sake boxes are something that the new mom and dad can use to keep things like the baby’s hospital bracelet, sonogram pictures, and other things that have sentimental value. To make it extra special, if it’s possible, have it engraved or embroidered with the baby’s name or a message from you.
